From hidden little coves to large stretches of sparkling sand, there’s a beautiful beach for everyone to enjoy.

When’s the Best Time to Enjoy The Beaches in Mallorca?

Mallorca is a year-round destination. Unlike the smaller Balearic Islands, such as Ibiza and Formentera, which are really seasonal, there are always things to do in Mallorca. But, even on a warm winter’s day, it’s unlikely you’ll go for a dip – however tempting the color of the sea might be. 

The best months to enjoy the beaches in Mallorca are April (if you don’t mind cool water), May, June, and September. These months are less touristy than the peak season in July and August but there’s still plenty of sunshine and amenities near the beaches. 

July and August can get very crowded and many of the best beaches in Mallorca fill up quickly, meaning you could spend your time traveling around the island, hopping from beach to beach, trying to find a spot to put your towel down.

The 8 Best Beaches in Mallorca

#1. Es Caló des Moro Beach

Es Caló des Moro is one of the most famous beaches in Mallorca – and with good reason. This thin stretch of sand rests between two high cliffs and boasts pristine turquoise waters. The dramatic landscape makes it ideal for snorkeling and the water is usually calm thanks to the rock formations. 

This beach is owned by a private foundation, meaning it’s kept a lot of its natural and rugged feel. There are no amenities or hotels nearby which adds to its beautiful charm.

Tip: You have to climb down some pretty steep steps along the cliffside to reach Caló des Moro, so it’s not one for very small kids. You’ll also need to bring a picnic as there are no cafes or services close to the beach.

#2. Platja des Trenc

This incredible beach in the south of the island is a family favorite. Platja des Trenc is 6 miles of perfectly white sand and azure waters offering perfect paddling conditions as well as plenty of space. 

There are a couple of chiringuitos (beach bars) dotted along the stretch of sand where you can pick up a drink or something to eat but, apart from them, Platja des Trenc is a wild and beautiful beach. In fact, it’s so impressive that it’s often called the ‘Caribbean of Mallorca’.

#3. Cala Mondragó

One of the most amazing things about Mallorca’s best beaches is that even though the island can get very touristy, many beaches manage to keep their natural charm. That’s certainly the case for Cala Mondragó. Located in the Mondragó Natural Park, these two sandy coves are surrounded by deep pine forests that reach the pale blue water. 

The natural formation of Cala Mondragó keeps it fairly sheltered, making it ideal for families and couples. For anyone wanting to see Mallorca’s untouched beauty and the rich wildlife on the island, then this amazing beach is a must.

 

#4. Cala Pi

Cala Pi is undoubtedly one of the most incredible beaches on the island. This horseshoe-shaped cove is surrounded by steep cliffs covered in Mediterranean vegetation and pine trees. It’s often less crowded than some of the more well-known beaches in Mallorca and there’s plenty of parking at the top of the cliff. 

On the other side of Cala Pi, where the boat huts are, there are also some steps leading up to a beautiful walk along the cliff edge. It’s great for views, especially when the sun sets.

#5. Cala d’Or (And Surrounding Beaches)

Cala d’Or is one of those beaches that I really recommend visiting in low season but one to be avoided in high season. It’s totally picturesque, with crystal clear water, rocky surroundings, and excellent snorkeling conditions. But, because it’s close to the tourist town with the same name, it can get really crowded in summer, which makes it lose its appeal.

It is, however, an excellent choice if you’re looking for the best beach in Mallorca for kids. There are lots of cafes and restaurants nearby and the water is calm and shallow. If you want slightly fewer people, head to Cala Ferrera, Cala sa Nau, or Cala Brafi which are all close by.

#6. Cala Deià

Cala Deià is a beautiful and unique beach on Mallorca’s west coast. It’s also worth going to the hilltop town of Deià as it’s one of the best things to do in Mallorca and it’s just a short drive away. 

This tiny, rocky beach is at the end of a pine-covered pathway leading from the carpark, and arriving at the beach is one of the best parts. You can see sparkling blue sea through deep green branches as well as the classic Balearic boat huts. Because this beach is rocky rather than sandy, it’s often a little quieter, but you’ll still want to arrive early in summer. There’s a bar on the beach where you can have lunch or grab a drink.

#7. Platja de Formentor

This is a wonderfully wild beach on Mallorca’s north coast. On this stretch of golden sand, pine trees meet perfectly clear water that’s ideal for water sports such as kayaking and paddle boarding. 

The views from Platja de Formentor are particularly stunning, especially when yachts are bobbing around on the waves in front of the rocky coastline. Because it is so far north, it can take a little longer to get there, but it’s well worth it. In my opinion, it’s a much better option than Port de Pollença or Platja d’Alcúdia which are both close by.

#8. Cala Figuera 

Cala Figuera is another stunning cove in the southeast of Mallorca. It’s definitely worth wandering around the old fishing village of Figuera before heading to the beach to enjoy the deep blue waters, golden sand, and dramatic coastline. The village is seriously cute, with multi-colored fishing huts and traditional Mallorcan fishing boats. 

The beach has a similar laid-back vibe to the village. It’s small and at the bottom of some steep steps and is perfect for anyone looking for natural beauty in a tranquil location.
